Fall Happenings and Doings

Since our last visit...

Trunk or Treat

I was the lady that swallowed a fly.
I don't know why I swallowed the fly...

What a fun night for kiddos in our town to come and enjoy some friendly trick or treating!

THIS was just outside my front door lasts week!!

My daughter is a lover of all kinds of animals, and
snakes are no exceptions.  She was able to move this guy on a couple of LONG sticks to the
woods near our house.  These make my skin crawl!  And the fact that this was just outside the front door.......ugh!  Thankfully weather has cooled so we shouldn't be seeing any more of these at least until spring.

Now...on to other goodies.

There is a quilt fabric shop near me that is FULL TO THE BRIM with fabric.
I had not been there in at least 2 years.
Well, I went recently and HOLY COW!

The fabric was stacked
here and there
and up and down
and in the aisles
and stacked on stacks
and on the counter
and behind the stacks and...
(do you get the picture?)

If you live in this area and are a quilter, you KNOW which store I'm referring to.
I LOVE going to this store.
I LOVE seeing all the fabulous fabrics this lady stocks.
I LOVE digging for treasure.  It was a fun excursion, and I treated myself to
two (yes, only two) fabrics...for this particular trip.

So...a week after that particular trek, there was a quilt show in the same town.
OH! WHAT A LOVELY DISPLAY OF CREATIVITY!
Allow me to share some of the pretties I saw there...

This gal is one creative soul.  This was a
from a photograph she took.  She
had the boots printed on fabric and then I think she tinted them further
with some type of art media.  I can't remember exactly.  I just know it was amazing.

This beauty was made from discarded shirts.
I LOVE the black and white stripe edging.

Love the colors!

Bias strips twisted into Celtic knots:

Can you imagine the HOURS of time and all the love
put into this gorgeous piece of art?

I've mentioned before I'm not a huge quilter, but I love and appreciate the art
of quilt making.  I love seeing the details and color mixes.  I love seeing how
shapes and patterns are made.  I love seeing how fabric is manipulated.
I get so inspired by these works.
The quilts I've posted here are just a FEW of the MANY quilts that I saw that day.

Now...after I visited this quilt show, I went back to that fabric store I mentioned earlier.
This time I came out with several pieces...

Recent Inspiration

This is a sketch I did a while back of an idea that popped into my head.

It evolved into this:

And continued to evolve...

The creative process of playing with the fabrics and layout began.

I started cutting out the parts.

And it comes together.
It's turning out just like I hoped, and possibly even better that I thought it would.

The completed top will be shown in my next post.

Mixings

This is another recent project in the beginning phase.
The colors don't show well here, but trust me, it's a really cool combination.
This is another project I'll show in the next post...so now you have a reason to
come back for a little "visit" with me here.

This is Yo Yo, our 13 year old calico kitty.
She is not the most friendliest of kitties, but she is special to us.
She spends most of her time sleeping these days.
She has a smooshed face so she has issues with her breathing.
The sweet girl snores...loudly.
She loves to be brushed and lay beside us while we watch tv.
Just had to share this sweet face...

Completed projects coming soon...
